Ingredients
  

Bagel Dough

  • 1 cup warm water about 110°F (43°C)
  • 2 1/4 tsp instant yeast
  • 3 1/2 cups bread flour plus extra for dusting
  • 1 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 tbsp granulated sugar
  • 1 tbsp vegetable oil

Boiling Water Bath

  • 2 quarts water for boiling
  • 2 tbsp honey optional

Instructions
 

  • In a bowl, mix warm water and yeast. Let sit for 5 minutes until frothy.
  • Add flour, salt, sugar, and oil. Knead for 10 minutes until smooth.
  • Cover the dough and let it rise for 60 minutes.
  • Divide the dough into 8 pieces, shape into balls, and poke a hole in the center to form bagels.
  • Bring a pot of water to a boil, add honey (if using), and boil bagels for 1 minute per side.
  • Bake at 425°F (220°C) for 20-25 minutes until golden brown.

Notes

Top with sesame seeds, poppy seeds, or everything bagel seasoning before baking for extra flavor!
